This Saturdays field trip to Amethyst Cove at Shaver Lake may be far better than we had expected! The Fresno Bee reports that So Cal Edison has lowered the lake level another 45 feet this week, which will expose areas that haven't been seen for many decades.
We went up to look around on Sunday, and I came back with half a bucket of stream tumbled smokey quartz. This will be a great trip for those who love to dig, and who knows what we'll find in the virgin territory?
Check the Events page for the details and weather/road condition updates. Stay tuned for at least four great trips to this site next Fall!
Don't forget the next Panoche Hills trip on November 20th. This season we'll be heading out from the Lil' Panoche site and visiting some of the nearby ranch "mullock" piles. The collecting in the Panoche Hills just keeps getting better! See the Events schedule for all of the details.
